Mobile Posse Raises $5 Million

Mobile Posse, which takes advertising to mobile phones, has claimed that it received $5 million in funding from venture capital investors.

This is the C round of funding and the new investors include Harbert Venture Partners, Capital, Court Square Ventures, Columbia Capital, as well as individual investors.

The McLean, Va.-based company says an increasing number of carriers are choosing its service to add one more source to their revenue. To date, it has been able to reach more than 15 million mobile consumers with active home screen messaging.


In December last year, Mobile Posse stated it reached out to 10 million customers. That means its consumer base grew by 50 percent in a matter of months.

“The value and power of the mobile phone home screen is immense. Every day, we are engaging a growing number of consumers with CRM messaging, advertising and content delivered directly to the home screen,” said Jon Jackson, CEO of Mobile Posse.

The U.S. carriers that are using its service include Verizon Wireless (News - Alert), MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, and Cricket.

The Mobile Posse platform allows wireless carriers and advertisers to engage consumers with graphical interactive messages and surveys via the home screen of mobile phones. Consumers who sign up for this free service receive helpful information such as weather forecasts and local gas prices, along with valuable offers from national and local advertisers.

Carriers leverage the platform to deliver full–screen, full–color CRM messages supporting customer service and product initiatives.

While about  eight to 10 percent use the service for advertising messages, nearly 15 percent consumers opt for content messages and as many as 30 percent for CRM messages.

“Mobile Posse has proven its home screen platform technology provides high value to carrier partners, advertisers and consumers. Our research with carrier partners and advertisers shows these customers recognize our platform as a premium mobile channel for customer engagement and advertising, as evidenced by superior click-through rates,” said Tom Roberts of Harbert Venture Partners.

Mobile Posse’s innovative technology and compelling content has so far been successful in attracting investors, but the company needs to sustain in this competitive environment, say analysts.
