Borqs Brings Benefits of the Cloud to Mobile Internet Industry

By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor

Subscribing strongly to the view that in order to be successful in today’s mobile Internet industry, operators should apply a platform that combines mobile terminals with cloud services, Beijing-based Borqs has derived customized "mobile terminal + cloud service" platform solutions for these operators.

Borqs is a five-year-old technology company dedicated to providing customizable, integrated Android (News - Alert) software platform solutions and end-to-end service platform solutions for mobile operators, terminal OEMs and chip manufacturers worldwide.

The mobile internet industry and the behavioral pattern of mobile Internet users have undergone severe changes in recent years, having significant and lasting impacts on the operating models and industrial positions of telecoms operators.

In the industry’s current state – characterized by the presence of a huge numbers of users, thoroughly developed and adaptable infrastructures and strong market shares for certain applications and instant messaging services – operators enjoy huge growth opportunities. Nevertheless, they often fail to take advantage of current market growth.

According to Borqs, its solution should be sought in the cloud.

In a press release, Borqs explained that the new platform combines mature cloud storage, cloud computing and application solution technologies and can help operators rapidly launch user platforms and data services.

In an effort to solve data storage problems, Borqs has introduced new IDC (News - Alert) services based on cloud computing and virtualization.

Borqs is all set to work out plans taking advantage of these new innovations, intended to help mobile operators stay competitive, while more adept at driving revenue.

Borqs’ customized Android operating system can also help mobile operators launch personal cloud services for individual users. The platform allows individuals to connect their smart terminals to the cloud over 3G in order to sync contacts, use SMS, update software and easily sync or back-up data – all while enjoying a range of preset cloud applications and services.

Using the platform, operators can offer a range of value added services. Operators can apply Borqs' unique user relationship mining center, for example, to develop diverse virtual services such as virtual communities and multiplayer gaming.

Through these tools, operators can create comprehensive interaction platforms for users and their friends. Based on their own billing and payment platforms, operators can even provide users with convenient and secure online platforms for making purchases, online payments and other virtual transactions.

Borqs is currently collaborating with one of Asia's most highly rated telecoms providers in order to help transform its business for the new mobile internet era. The telecom firm reportedly has more than 400 million customers around the world and a reputation for providing large-scale, competitively priced telecom services.

Under the terms of partnership, Borqs has integrated its home screen software, Widget, with contact, messaging and VoIP functions for non-customized phones. Borqs' partner operator has won praise from users for this new advanced usability and tariff optimization.

The fruits of this partnership have already been extended to 200 million users in the Asia-Pacific region.

Earlier this month, Borqs announced that company CEO and president, Pat Chan, was honored as the recipient of the 2012 Silicon Dragon Entrepreneur OF BEIJING Award. The award not only acknowledges Chan's personal entrepreneurship, but reflects Borqs' numerous achievements in mobile internet Android+ software and services platform solutions in recent years.
