The latest Enterprise Content Management Vendor Landscape report from Info-Tech Research Group ranks IBM, OpenText and EMC (News - Alert) as champions in the enterprise content management (ECM) for both Process Workers and Knowledge Workers. Laserfiche was ranked as a Champion in the ECM for Process Workers Vendor Landscape.

Further the report found the ECM market is mainly driven by acquisitions and mobile innovations. Ongoing consolidation and the explosive growth in mobile technologies are having a disruptive impact in the ECM market.

“Mobile capabilities are more important than ever for ECM vendors and their clients. Users are creating large amounts of content on their mobile devices as these devices become more sophisticated. All ECM vendors need to have the capability to bring this content within the enterprise's control,” said George Goodall, senior research analyst, Info-Tech Research Group, in a statement.

“Mobile innovations are underway in this market and consolidation is on the horizon as larger vendors acquire smaller vendors to gain mobile technology,” Goodall added.

A significant trend noticed by the agency is the overlap of both vendors and capabilities between ECM for ECM for Process Workers and ECM for Knowledge Workers. While major ECM vendors provide both, small vendors offer specific solutions to address the needs of the process worker.  

Both IBM (News - Alert) and OpenText are aggressive in the market with acquisitions. IBM acquired FileNet recently, expanding into information governance and content analytics.  

OpenText, the largest pure-play ECM vendor, has demonstrated growth through acquisitions. The company has strong focus for integrating mobile and social technologies into its solutions. Recently OpenText announced the launch of OpenText Capture for Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint as an addition to its information governance, storage management and business process management solutions.  

EMC, another Champion highlighted in Info-Tech report, offers a variety of solutions spanning all areas of ECM. Its core offering is Documentum, which is complemented by other offerings such as Captiva and Document Sciences which the company acquired over recent past.

Laserfiche has gained traction in the ECM industry with its innovative iPhone (News - Alert) app that allows for remote scanning. The ECM for Process Workers Vendor Landscape  report finds that Laserfiche's base capability and channel strength makes it a perfect fit for mid-market ECM needs and is recognized as a market Champion.
