This week in Chicago, IL, 4G World 2011 has proved to be a substantial platform for D2 Technologies (News - Alert), provider of embedded IP and mobile unified communications software platforms, as the company made two significant announcements from the show.

Building on the announcement D2 Tech made earlier this week regarding the company’s recent partnership with Altair Semiconductor to create a 4G VoLTE solution, today, an additional announcement was made in relation to another partnering company D2 has a long-standing relationship with.  

In order to extend its partnership with 4G chipmaker Sequans Communications (News - Alert) to meet the demand for turnkey LTE solutions, D2's mCUE(R), a converged 4G mobile communications client for Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and RCS video calling applications, has been successfully paired with a Sequans LTE (News - Alert) chipset.

Together, the collaboration between D2 Technologies and Sequans will provide OEMs, ODMs and carriers to utilize a more economical and complete 4G communications solution over LTE in new devices to deliver services such as video calling/sharing, instant messaging, whiteboarding, location sharing, network address book, multiple device support and more, according to the release.

"Sequans is growing its product line to match the growing adoption rate for LTE around the globe," said Georges Karam (News - Alert), Sequans CEO. "By working with D2 Technologies to pair our LTE solutions with mCUE, we can help our customers accelerate time-to-market for a variety of VoLTE optimized devices that offer rock-solid reliability and a lower implementation cost."

The partnership comes at a significant time for both parties as each company recently marked separate milestones in the commercialization of LTE. Last month, D2's mCUE and its underlying vPort embedded IMS VoIP software platform successfully completed the VoLTE Interoperability Testing Event in Beijing, China and Dusseldorf, Germany. Separately, Sequans recently announced three new LTE baseband chips and a companion RF chip targeting a wide variety of handsets and mobile broadband devices and supporting all global FDD and TDD LTE networks. Sequans also recently disclosed that it is participating in China Mobile's (News - Alert) large scale TD-LTE trial network in Shenzhen, China, according to company officials.
