Managing an Increasingly Mobile Workforce

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

As the rise of mobile device usage continues its ascent in almost every aspects of life, the workplace has become a particularly relevant spot for the technology as workers are themselves becoming more mobile.

Although its benefits are obvious, there are some obstacles companies should consider as it watches its workforce do business away from the office. One particularly vexing issue many face is how to closely monitor mobile device usage to ensure proper telecom expense management.

Whether it’s a Blackberry, iPhone (News - Alert), PDA or a myriad of other devices used in business, it’s important for companies to put in place a mobile expense management platform to collect data such as Internet usage.

With the advent of the wireless management space, more businesses are opting for cost saving mobile technologies that move beyond basic authorization and tracking functions.

One company at the forefront of wireless management capabilities is Amtel (News - Alert). The Santa Clara, California-based company offers software and service solutions for Wireless Procurement and Expense Management for businesses. The platform is designed to help organizations benefit from Centralized Order management through the use of these corporate Mobile Policies and complete visibility of their Telecom costs and allocations.

The invoicing of phone, Internet and mobile services is complicated, and telecom expense management is playing an increasingly important step in this process.

“Companies looking for better ROI on their Telecoms management,” said PJ Gupta, founder and president of Amtel “We provided them real cost savings along with streamlining their entire order management and Invoice processing.

According to Gupta, Amtel clients, on the average receive more than 350 percent return on investment.” Mobile Management has been a big driver for our services this year,” he said.

Among the important solutions a company like Amtel can provide are: determining the best optimal usage; finding which device and feature best suits the needs of an employee; how to track authorized users; how to track new orders; disconnect users; devices breakdown; allocate costs across different departments spread among different vendor’s and more are making managing mobile services a difficult task at an organization.

As TMCnet recently reported, Gupta said there is a growing trend for companies to look for better ROI on their Telecoms management and noted that Amtel was providing them real cost savings along with streamlining their entire order management and Invoice processing.

“We have been very successful in 2008.  We signed up 14 new clients this year,” said Gupta.
