ForeScout, SAP Combine Network Access Control with Mobile Device Management to Secure BYOD

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

ForeScout Technologies, a provider of network security solutions, has announced interoperability between its ForeScout CounterACT network security and the SAP (News - Alert) Afaria mobile device management (MDM) platform.

ForeScout CounterACT for Network Access Control is an automated security control platform that provides visibility into everything on the network, including devices, operating systems, applications and users, so that employees, contractors and guests can remain productive.

CounterACT is at the core of ForeScout’s ControlFabric architecture, an open platform that enables ForeScout CounterACT and other solutions to exchange information and resolve a wide variety of network, security and operational issues.

SAP Afaria is part of the SAP Mobile Secure enterprise mobility management portfolio. The cloud-based mobile device management solution is designed to ensure that all corporate devices, apps, content and communications are secure in a BYOD environment.

The combination of ForeScout CounterACT and SAP Afaria aims to enable companies to accelerate and fortify the provisioning, administration and security of corporate and personal mobile devices, applications and data in the enterprise.

An integrated approach to managing and securing mobile devices provides organizations with a means to easily identify who and what type of device is connecting to the enterprise, and allows them to automatically enroll and monitor roles-based controls for any device and user, thus securing the growing movement of corporate data across smartphones and tablets.

The pairing of network access control (NAC) with MDM allows enterprises to see and detect all unmanaged, corporate and personal mobile devices and apply security policies based on user, role and device to automatically limit access.

The solution also provides a compliance rules engine at the device and network level that supports on-demand and automated responses, such as reconfigure, remote wipe and network reassignment. It also provides unified visibility and reporting for all mobile endpoint devices, including PCs, smartphones, tablets and laptops.

"IT organizations want to rapidly and cost-effectively adopt BYOD without compromising security - giving appropriate access to corporate resources, data and applications that take full advantage of mobile platforms and cloud ubiquity," said Gil Friedrich, vice president of technology for ForeScout. "Through this integration, SAP customers can utilize the rich enterprise mobile device, data and application management provided by SAP Afaria with advanced network visibility and control afforded by ForeScout.”
