Infrascale Adds New Data Loss Prevention Features to FileLocker Enterprise Collaboration Software

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Infrascale recently announced new data loss prevention features for its FileLocker enterprise collaboration software. It said that it has added the individual device management and remote device wipe functionality to its FileLocker bring-your-own device (BYOD) policy enforcement features.

Ken Shaw, CEO at Infrascale, noted that IT managers want to protect data no matter where it is; whether it's on the device or inside FileLocker. He said failing to authorize and secure file sharing creates an unknown quantity of existing file sharing activities, and therefore, an unknown potential for data loss.

“With FileLocker, we aim to solve this problem by delivering granular administrative device management functionality,” Shaw said, adding that now, the administrator has the ability to manage each user account and device for greater risk management and BYOD enforceability.

It is expected that by 2014 nearly 90 percent of firms will support corporate applications on personal devices, according to a report by IDC (News - Alert). And, mobile technology usage will increasingly demand employers' accommodation as a result.

There is an ever expanding gap in comprehensive data loss prevention strategies, company officials said. FileLocker aims to narrowing this gap to a manageable level, designed to protect data accessed or downloaded onto personal devices.

Companies are usually lenient when it comes to allowing their employees use their personal devices to share corporate file and also for other activities. Company officials said that this is creating a “great level exposure to data loss.”

Infrascale explains that FileLocker administrator in a company will have access to complete user-by-user and device management controls, noting that the admin can require approval for FileLocker access on any new device. Moreover, the company said, IT administrators can reject all device access for a specific user.

The included ‘wipe device’ feature enables administrators to select and destroy relevant FileLocker data on a device. Company officials said that once this is done, a user will not be able to see folders or files contained within the application. Also, they will be unable to access the FileLocker system from the said device.

The remote device wipe functionality for administrators is intended to eliminate the dangers associated with device theft, employee turnover and other concerns unauthorized access.
