McAfee Advances Mobile Device Management in Enterprises with McAfee ePO Platform

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

As concerns over mobile security grew in enterprises, there is growing demand for mobile device management (MDM) solutions.

In fact, a recent piece from TMCnet says that 60 percent of companies currently offer bring your own device (BYOD) to their employees. The number is expected to rise to 90 percent in 2014. Perhaps even more intriguing is a recent prediction that 50 percent of companies will mandate BYOD by 2017, the news item said.

In a recent survey conducted by Gartner (News - Alert) on 2,300 CIOs worldwide last year, CIOs ranked mobile security as their second highest technology priority. This concern over mobile security has forced IT departments to deploy standalone management systems for mobile devices.

To help enterprises deal with the challenges associated with BYOD, McAfee (News - Alert) announced it has integrated McAfee Enterprise Mobility Management (McAfee EMM software) with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (McAfee ePO) platform.

With the new McAfee ePO, mobility is no longer an additional strain on IT resources with the simplification and efficiency of managing end-user devices and servers in the same security infrastructure.

McAfee ePO enables enterprises to protect their data on company-issued and employee-owned devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers through a single, unified infrastructure and console. Users can also extend comprehensive security, policy and management capabilities to their mobile devices.

“Businesses are leveraging mobile technologies to deliver a competitive edge yet many organizations manage these devices separately from their core infrastructure,” said Ari Jaaksi, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile Engineering Operations at McAfee, in a statement.

“Every device that’s connected to the Internet or that has access to an organization’s network or database needs to be secured and managed. McAfee is making it easier for IT departments to see and manage their mobile footprint along with the rest of their infrastructure,” Jaaksi added.

The combination of McAfee EMM software with the included McAfee ePO management platform includes end-to-end security and compliance visibility from a single, unified infrastructure and console. It also includes granular policy-based security including per user, device and operating system options.
