MobileIron: A New Way to Promote Paperless Solutions

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

Although mobile devices have not yet replaced the need for a computer or laptop, they are being leveraged by enterprises for different reasons. For those traveling or constantly on the go, a tablet is the perfect device to store files and documents that are part of a presentation or speech.

One of the largest professions to be impacted by such an innovative technology is the legal field, which is plagued by endless paper. However, such documents are highly susceptible to infringements on security because of the legal power they have, which is why the top 10 largest law firms in the world have just chosen MobileIron’s mobile security and management platform as an armor of protection against such dangers.

Recently, CASEFOLIO was released as an iPad app for lawyers, serving as a legal document review pad to eliminate the many documents that need to be filed and brought back and forth from the office to the courthouse; it’s essentially a new paperless solution. Following its release is the iOrion app, where lawyers can now manage the monetary aspect of their job. iOrion serves as a financial management mobile application that allows legal professionals to enter and access data from Orion using any iOS device, where they can manage their cases, billable time and expenses.

Here are a few examples of how the largest law firms utilized such solutions from MobileIron:

Large deployments: One MobileIron customer launched a firm-wide initiative built around mobility and iPads. The company shared its story with CIO Magazine in the article The Trials of Enterprise iPad Adoption.

Global reach: The trend is global. Australian law firm Allens, which uses MobileIron to secure and manage mobile devices and apps, was documented in The Australian Times' story Order! Top Law Firm's Positive Verdict Is In.

So, with such apps available to help ease the burden of papers for lawyers and create more opportunities to promote performance levels, law firms have begun implementing a way to manage and deliver secure content to mobile devices. By using the MobileIron App Security and Access Control, law firm officials can select what applications are required, allowed or banned and then create rules that specify the consequences of not following this policy, which can include blocking e-mail or sending SMS to the user and IT informing them of policy violations.

To secure such devices, MobileIron has an easy-to-install platform that brings all corporate technology and personal devices as part of the BYOD umbrella under one centralized IT management, and connects them securely to enterprise resources like e-mail and Wi-Fi. The solution has the ability to handle securing lost, stolen or retired devices with a full and selective swipe. Some of the key features it includes are enterprise data boundary with selective wipe and privacy policies, Access Control (Sentry) with ActiveSync connection activity, device visibility and blocking of e-mail access, certificate distribution, password enforcement and encryption policy.
