Mobile Device Management Provider MobileIron Powers Foundation for Apps-based Computing

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

With mobile apps and content becoming the primary way in which people all over the globe communicate, app-based computing is the next big thing in IT, according to mobile device management provider MobileIron.

In order to help clients make the transition to apps-based computing in a much easier manner, MobileIron has launched the industry’s first complete security and management foundation for mobile IT.

The company identifies new challenges in the post-BlackBerry (News - Alert) era. And with the proliferation of multiple devices being entered into an enterprise’s network at a rapid pace, the task of provisioning hundreds of apps to thousands of people will congest the corporate networks. The sheer size of content-rich mobile apps will aggravate the situation.

Luckily, the MobileIron Application Delivery Network (ADN) is the industry’s first solution for scalable app provisioning in the enterprise. It gives mobile IT the ability to deliver apps of any size to a number of devices without impacting the network. The ADN offloads download of the apps onto a secure global backbone. The solution is integrated with MobileIron Apps@Work, a private app storefront for distributing enterprise apps.

The MobileIron ADN, in combination with Apps@Work, gives mobile IT real-world scale for the company-wide deployment of mobile apps.

Additionally, MobileIron Docs@Work, another solution from the mobile device management provider, is a data loss prevention solution designed to address the challenges associated with the distribution of enterprise content through email or SharePoint. The MobileIron Docs@Work offers users end-to-end security for both ActiveSync email attachments and SharePoint content.

Docs@Work also provides secure transport, local storage, viewing, and data wiping. It has the ability to decrypt and view items and unauthorized third-party apps are blocked from accessing these attachments.

The company’s App Connect for Android (News - Alert) allows enterprises to launch Android as a reliable part of an enterprise apps strategy. It allows mobile IT to easily secure apps data across supported Android devices and OS versions. With App Connect for Android, each business app becomes a secure container that is managed through the MobileIron console.

“Our customers are aggressively mobilizing their business processes,” said Bob Tinker, CEO, MobileIron, in a statement. “Mobile IT moves fast and, as the category leader, we deliver well-architected innovations. With the MobileIron App Delivery Network, Docs@Work, and App Connect for Android, our customers can go big with mobile.”
