Metro Ethernet: IPNETZONE Joins Telx Ethernet Exchange to Expand MPLS Exchange Platform Reach

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

New York-based metro Ethernet services provider IPNETZONE has joined the Telx Ethernet Exchange to expand the reach of its recently-launched MPLS Exchange Platform (MEP).

Powered by the 6.4 TB/s capable Cisco ASR 9000 hardware platform and the modular Cisco (News - Alert) IOS XR software operating system, the Telx Ethernet Exchange provides a simplified method of interconnecting service provider networks on a one-to-many basis.

“IPNETZONE chose the Telx Ethernet Exchange as a fast, cost-effective way to expand its service delivery model,” said Glenn Calafati, vice president of Interconnection Services at Telx.

The MEP connects MPLS networks across multiple carriers, offering seamless connectivity to global markets and facilities. With IPNETZONE's MEP, service providers can access multiple MPLS networks globally and experience MPLS the way it was originally intended -- as a carrier-to-carrier service.

IPNETZONE expects that by joining the Telx Ethernet Exchange program in New York City, it can now remove a significant barrier to entry for carrier customers. Previously, they were required to buy a dedicated last-mile circuit or install a dedicated cross-connect into the MEP.

IPNETZONE will use Telx Ethernet Exchange’s one-to-many connectivity to better serve its customers, said Joon Shin (News - Alert), CEO at IPNETZONE.

Shin said that IPNETZONE's MEP customers now have the ability to seamlessly interconnect to all carriers within the Telx 111 8th Avenue data center, while other Telx Ethernet Exchange members now have additional options with direct access to the company’s MEP from this key location.

“Not only does this partnership make it easier for carrier customers to connect to IPNETZONE's MEP, but it gives our Global Marketplace of customers even more last-mile connectivity choices,” Calafati said.

Telex is an interconnection and data center provider in 15 strategic North American markets. Earlier this month, TMC, a global integrated media company, named the Telx Ethernet Exchange as a recipient of its 2010 Unified Communications (News - Alert) magazine Product of the Year Award.
