New Edge Networks, a managed services business communications unit of EarthLink Inc., announced that it has signed on Carrier Source, a telecommunications company as a master agent.
The partnership between New Edge and Carrier Source entails the latter and its subagents to have access to a fully managed MPLS network that can service 95 percent of businesses in the United States. Carrier Source will also benefit from New Edge’s sales, engineering and project management support.
Carrier Source caters to retail business customers with 50 or more locations who are desirous of deploying, replacing or expanding the broadband connectivity in their stores. The client base of the company is looking for connectivity options that will be suitable for multiple chain store locations which can serve bandwidth-intensive applications reliably and with stability.
Dave Jackson, vice president of business development for Carrier Source said, “Our retail customers have gone beyond basic point of sale or POS and credit card swipes over their WAN. Today’s applications require more bandwidth, bandwidth guarantees and network stability. The fact that New Edge has completely upgraded its backbone to a true MPLS solution helps eliminate some of the inherent issues with DSL and helps mitigate PCI (News - Alert) compliance issues.”
“With New Edge’s MPLS network, we can deliver and guarantee the bandwidth needed at the price points our retail customers require,” Jackson added.
New Edge EVDO wireless solution has been leveraged by Carrier Source to enable easy deployment of network connectivity in shopping malls. This solution helps eliminate the local loop and all the wiring required between the main mall D-MARC and customer premises. This reduces time for installation and wiring charges.
New Edge also provides a private EVDO wireless connection which suits retail locations and offers a backup network solution for all customers. The MPLS is offered over ADSL which reduces costs for those customers who have applications requiring a private network, explained company sources.
New Edge Vice President of Agent Channel JR Cook pointed out that his company has seen a dramatic increase in activity from Agents over the past year, especially in the Western region. He added that the partnership with a master agent like Carrier Source will help in increasing the presence in the Eastern region of the country also. Carrier Source’s experience in the Retail Sector is expected to boost New Edge’s presence in a vertical industry.
