It’s hard to imagine a time when the cloud was too costly of a project for companies to begin to undertake. Yet, this wasn’t so long ago, and as more cloud-based services continue to make their way to the market and more providers back them, prices are continuing to drop.

Just look at Microsoft (News - Alert), for example. As a way to gain a competitive edge against Amazon Web Services, the Washington-based company is cutting down prices on its virtual machines and cloud services by nearly 21 to 33 percent. With these smaller price tags though, what effect overall is the reduction having on master agents and channel partners alike?

According to Greg Emplit, general manager of Nextpoint Information Systems, "It's becoming more of a commodity-type business. All of a sudden, it's all about volume. It's kind of like the old hardware days, where the more you sell, the more you make, but you're not making very much on any one thing. The question becomes, where is the bottom, and how low do they go?"

The dramatic reduction of everything cloud could result in enticing those who have yet to make the transition to finally take the steps needed to do just that, but for now we will have to just wait and see if this is the final push some of these resistant firms need. One company that truly comprehends the sheer vitality of the cloud, though, is master agent Telarus (News - Alert). With the philosophy of automating processes in order to streamline operations, the company powers not only a high level of customer care but matches that with an extremely robust, and yes you guessed it, cloud-based portfolio.

GeoQuote is one of its greatest technological innovations. The platform provides users with real-time commercial telecom pricing software that enables partners to find the information they are in search of right away. The product also encompasses functions handling commission data, promotional pricing, and real-time customer contact creation. In October, 2012, GeoQuote was reported to have approximately 1,000, 000 quotes under its ever expanding belt.

Further, its VAR network is ideal for agent-VAR management and serves as an intuitive lead distribution system. The infrastructure is comprised of both software and financial processing offerings that help agent partners to form and maintain long-lasting relationships with their referral partners.

Because the master agent offers its customers piece of mind by being their go-to IT outsource expert, companies can easily add carrier services to their portfolio and then distribute them to their customers. This, in turn, expands the expertise an organization offers, providing a much more complete solution to a wider customer base.
