Master agents are crucial in connecting subagents and carriers. Recently, the news broke that Cary Tengler has become part of the channel management team at Comcast (News - Alert) Business Class, where he will take on the role of senior director of national partner programs.

Tengler’s main responsibility will be handling, maintaining and managing the master agent, third-party sales and strategic alliance partner programs, according to a recent Channel Partners Online piece.

As he began his new job, Tangler was met with a familiar face in the form of Craig Schlagbaum, Comcast's vice president of sales – indirect channels, as the twosome had collaborated together at Level 3 Communications (News - Alert) where Tengler was director of offer management/business development and Schlagbaum was vice president of indirect channels.

Tengler claims he is looking forward to helping build the company's channel strategy and will be managing the company's three master agencies made up of Telecom Brokerage Inc., Intelisys Inc. and Telarus (News - Alert) Inc., as well as various regional partners.

Furthermore, Tengler will also be assisting Ciena, Juniper and Cisco with expanding their relationships with those vendors' VARs to improve sales.

As we are in reach of the New Year, TMCnet sat down with master agent TBI to discuss the company’s biggest achievements over the last twelve months. Ken Mercer, TBI commented, “One of the biggest advancements this year has been the cable companies embracing the indirect channel and our success selling Comcast, Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable and Charter to our partners. Other big developments at TBI this year were the creation and growth of our Wireless division and our web-based tool for partners to manage their customers called partneriQ.

In 2012, Mercer added, “We plan to grow by adding employees and partners, and focus on growing existing business. We're also planning to use better business intelligence to foster growth with a possible expansion of other markets.”
