PAETEC (News - Alert), a provider of advanced communication solutions to businesses throughout the nation, has recently made its Intellifiber fiber-optic network available to third-party master agents in order to market nationally, PAETEC officials said in a statement. In December, PAETEC acquired the fiber in conjunction with the closing of a deal to buy Virginia-based Cavalier Telephone (News - Alert). The 10,600-route-mile Intellifiber Networks was formerly a Cavalier subsidiary.

"These services allow us to become more strategic in our approach in serving our customers and more relevant to their long term networking needs," said Kristine Barton, director, solutions engineering at ARG, a PAETEC agent, in a press release. "The ability to have access to the solutions along with the technical resources makes the PAETEC model very unique in the market and gives us more opportunity to differentiate as we consult with clients on their high-bandwidth requirements. In today's market where larger, scalable bandwidth is in high demand, the PAETEC offering could not be more timely."

The network was a huge reason why the company decided to go forward with the $460 million Cavalier purchase, Paetec chairman and CEO Arunas Chesonis (News - Alert) said, at the time in a statement. Now in conjunction with Cavalier’s fiber assets, PAETEC’S national fiber-optic route miles have increased to a grand total of 37,000.

“I'm confident … our channel partners will immediately find ways to increase revenue and lower churn," said Clint Heiden (News - Alert), PAETEC president of fiber services, in a statement.

In related news, TMCnet reported in February that PAETEC acquired Xeta technologies, a company that sells, installs and services advanced communication technologies for enterprise customers.

XETA is considered to be one the largest full-service providers of advanced communications solutions, as it boasts 32 locations and constant and efficient 24/7 customer contact and data network operating centers. The acquisition of XETA will help PAETEC to intensify its approach to vertical industries such as the hospitality, education, healthcare, and government sectors.
