The future will see more of the things we use connected to the Internet. According to Cisco (News - Alert) there will be an estimated 50 billion connected devices by 2020, and yet others believe there will be much more. The Internet of Things (IoT) will rely on communications companies, hardware manufacturers and software developers. In order to establish an early stronghold in the IoT, companies in each sector are forming alliances to provide customers with the best solutions available. Synchronoss Technologies, global provider of cloud solutions and software-based activation for connected devices, announced its new Integrated Life platform, which will provide improved connectivity solutions.
The introduction of this new platform comes with the announcement that AT&T (News - Alert) will be the first carrier to take advantage of the Integrated Life platform to power its new connected car center AT&T Drive Studio, and a modular, global automotive platform called AT&T Drive, a first-of-its-kind.
For AT&T it will mean the company will be able to integrate all of its resources and provide automotive manufacturers and related industries with solutions across multiple partners by serving as a hub for responding to specific needs.
Having a cloud platform solution will allow organizations to seamlessly activate their devices and services to give end users more options on how they can employ the technology. The Integrated Life platform connects and activates automobiles, health and wellness devices, smartphones, tablets and more.
“This is going to be a watershed year for the connected car and embedded connections will allow consumers to access their connected lives regardless of the vehicle they drive. We have relied on Synchronoss’ activation software for more than ten years and know they can deliver the kind of innovation and solutions we need in the AT&T Drive Studio for our automotive partners,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Emerging Devices, AT&T Mobility.
The AT&T Drive Ecosystem will integrate the Syncrhonoss platform in automobiles, which will give these vehicles:
- An easy to use dashboard with access to online content including apps, documents, e-mails, music, videos as well as diagnostics and settings
- Provides communication between connected devices and systems with smart mobile devices or vehicles remotely
- Ability to activate connected automobiles as a mobile hot spot on the AT&T network and access automobile diagnostic information on any device as part of their overall shared data plan
- Natural Extension to Synchronoss Portfolio for Mobile Activation
Other organizations will be able to use the Integrated Life platform to provide solutions for making their presence felt in the IoT ecosystem with:
Simple and optimized context-based device activation and connectivity processes.
Deploy any app (custom and third-party) through the API platform and provide faster connection to the devices of end-user’s digital content, stored securely in the Cloud, with powerful APIs.
Deliver improved customer experience across devices, regardless of whether customer is a carrier or OEM customer.
Manage user identities, profiles and policies for targeted device unified subscription, service and billing management.
Support for diverse business and revenue models.
"This platform provides mobile operators across the globe a tremendous opportunity to offer more shared data plans while at the same time providing consumers access to their content on a multitude of devices, including automobiles like the ones featured in the AT&T Drive Studio," said Nick Lazzaro, EVP and President, North America, Synchronoss.
