Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 Awarded 2012 Internet Telephony Product of the Year

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

Acme Packet knew it had a winner with its Net-Net 6300 session border control solution. Receiving TMC’s Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Product of the Year award only confirmed it.

The Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 recently was recognized as one of TMCnet’s 2012 Internet Telephony Product of the Year for setting the standard for trusted, first-class session border control services for the world’s largest and most advanced interactive IP communications networks.

“We are honored to receive this award which recognizes our dedication to the continued advancement of the telecommunications industry,” said Pat MeLampy, chief technology officer for Acme Packet (News - Alert), as reported in a recent blog post.

“At Acme Packet, we strive to help our customers, both service providers and enterprises, meet the constant demand for next generation communication services by providing innovative and cutting-edge technology and solutions, and we’re grateful that the editors at INTERNET TELEPHONY have recognized this effort,” added MeLampy.

Launched in October 2012, the Net-Net 6300 marks the debut of a new generation of session border controller (SBC) platforms designed specifically for emerging mobile services such as Voice over Long-term Evolution (VoLTE), Rich Communications Services (RCS/RCS-e) and high definition (HD) video calling, as noted in a recent blog post.

The Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 combines groundbreaking performance, capacity and system throughput in a 3RU form factor with proven and comprehensive session delivery functions and features, according to Acme Packet. It is based on a next-generation hardware design that leverages state-of-the-art components and 64-bit symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) in a modular system designed for growth and flexibility.

The Net-Net 6300 runs on the same version of Net-Net OS as Acme Packet’s Net-Net 4500, and it features high-performance, purpose-built multi-processor design, is capable of supporting up to 1 million simultaneous subscribers, and has 40 Gbps system throughput, according to the company.

The Net-Net 6300 protects investment in existing SBC infrastructure, meets all emerging service requirements in efficient 3RU form factor and educes total cost of ownership.

When used in conjunction with TransNexus’ (News - Alert) SDReporter, it also helps deliver insight on how calls are flowing through the network.

SDReporter is a packet analyzer that seamlessly integrates with Acme Packet SBC. CDR files are simply pushed from your Acme Packet SBC to SDReporter for processing and analysis, so there’s no need to install probes on the network.

With this seamless relationship, SDReporter leverages Acme Packet to deliver comprehensive quality of service reporting, call completion reporting, quality of service reporting, and call detail record reporting.

SDReporter also delivers alarms and its reports in near real time, pointing out network problems as they develop.

The TMCnet award is just another reason why Acme Packet is an SBC worth considering.
