Least cost routing provider TransNexus (News - Alert) has joined the Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA).

The association is made up of about 200 carriers, private network owners, end-users, and law enforcement officers, according to a company statement.

Started in 1985, the organization’s founders included representatives from AT&T, ITT, MCI, Network One, Satellite Business Systems and Sprint (News - Alert).

It is a not-for-profit global educational association. The CFCA fights communications-based fraud. It attacks fraud inside and outside the communications industry.

The CFCA provides law enforcement liaisons, public awareness updates, directories, fraud alerts and access to security databases.

Membership categories include: carriers, PBX (News - Alert) /PABX owners, ISPs, cable and satellite providers, corporate end-users, operator service providers, fraud system developers, prosecutors, members of law enforcement agencies, communications consultants and companies that provide revenue assurance solutions for wireless, wireline, IP, and NGN systems, the organization said in a recent online statement.

Ongoing educational events are held on such topics as: communications systems and fraudsters, how to combat the fraud and how to protect companies assets, the CFCA added.

CFCA produces a quarterly publication, the Communicator, which focuses on communications fraud. The Fraud Alert Library offers up-to-the-minute information about scams, investigations and cases, compromised calling card and authorization codes and related matters. The 24x7 Information Sharing Forum is provided to the association’s members.

The CFCA’s work centers on revenue assurance, loss prevention and fraud control through education and information. It promotes a close association among telecommunications fraud security personnel. Also, the CFCA instituted a certification program in 1993.
