Mobile Research Shows that Apple and Google Users Are Satisfied with Voice Control Technologies

Mobile Research Shows that Apple and Google Users Are Satisfied with Voice Control Technologies

Internationally acknowledged market research and consulting company Parks Associates (News - Alert) has released the results of a study titled “Voice Recognition & Control on Mobile Devices.” It is based on numerous surveys that were conducted by Parks Associates.

John Barrett, director of consumer analytics at Parks Associates, said that "Adoption rates for voice control technologies have increased over the last year; roughly one-fifth of broadband users surveyed use either Siri or Google Now. Both Apple's (News - Alert) Siri technology and Google Now are commonly used to look up information and send text messages. However, over 50% of Siri users play music or schedule events with the technology, a much higher rate than Google (News - Alert) Now users."

The information, gathered from the survey of smartphone users, uncovers the fact that a majority of both Apple iPhone (News - Alert) Siri and Google Now users are “very” satisfied with their voice control and recognition technologies.

The chart below shows that a majority of 55 percent of Apple Siri users and only slightly less at 50 percent of Google Now users fall into the category of being very satisfied.

Intel (News - Alert) Capital announced that they would be investing $100 million over a two to three year period in perceptual computing technologies. Included in this technology will be voice and gesture control. Analysts at Parks Associates feel that this will give the future outlook of voice control technologies a huge boost.

A breakdown of the Parks Associates’ research shows that;

48% of Siri users and 39% of Google Now users use the feature for five or more activities monthly

77% of Siri users and 70% of Google Now users use it to look up information

71% of Siri users and 74% of Google Now users use it to send text messages

Barrett commented on this saying "Roughly one-half of those using these features say it is 'very important' to have voice control on their next smartphone, and our research shows this consumer demand is expanding to TVs and other connected home devices.”

Being able to use voice commands is another way to make it easier to complete some of your tasks on mobile devices. If you can say your text message, it is certainly a lot easier than having to type it out. As long as the voice recognition works properly and your device can understand what you are speaking then you are more likely to use the feature.

This clearly seems to be the case with Apple Siri and Google Now. As you can see from the chart, about three quarters of this group of users is unmistakably either satisfied or very satisfied with the voice control function.
