Eight Reasons to Choose pbxnsip's PBX

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

TMCnet recently spoke with pbxnsip CEO Christian Stredicke to learn more about the company’s PBX (News - Alert) solution. The conversation led to a list of eight reasons why your company should choose the pbxnsip solution.

1. It Makes You Independent

Because pbxnsip's PBX is SIP-based, it supports a large range of devices from many different vendors. This means you aren't locked in, and that vendors have to compete for your business. This, Stredicke said, the right approach generally for providers of IP telephony solutions to take, and is the future for IP-PBXs in particular.

2. It Addressses Security

pbxnsip's PBX uses industry standards for security including https, sips, SRTP and sdes. Security is a very important consideration when choosing a PBX, and one that Stredicke said he's amazed so many people understimate.

“Your job is in danger if you don’t consider security today,” he warned.

If you buy any type of component for your communications system, he added, and don't consider security, you are making a mistake.

3. It Runs on Windows

While pbxnsip’s PBX is available for Linux and NetBSD--platforms championed by supporters of the open-source movement--it also is available for Windows.

"There are people who like Windows and are happy with maintaining Windows servers," Stredicke said. This is especially true for many small companies.

“Windows is the reality today,” he added.

4. It is Manageable

Pbxnsip’s PBX was built with ease of maintenance in mind. Standard SNMP tools are included so the PBX can be remotely checked using a Web browser. It also supports plug-and-play for selected user agents and can be automatically configured.

“We really try to avoid support cases,” Stredicke told TMCnet. “It’s not our business model to make money on support cases.”

5. It talks to Your ITSP, Connects to Your PSTN Network, and Supports Peer-to-Peer

Pbxnsip’s PBX supports trunking to most Internet service providers (ITSPs). Terminating traffic using an ITSP can drastically reduce your telephone bill.

Stredicke said that one of the main reasons to go VoIP is the ability to use an ITSP. He noted that pbxnsip's PBX also makes it possible to use the PSTN network when necessary, such as in emergency 911 cases.

“We are really pragmatic when it comes to PSTN,” he said of pbxnsip.

Also, while the promise of true peer-to-peer access using the Internet isn't quite here yet, pbxnsip is taking a proactive approach by making this type of connection possible using its PBX.

6. It Talks to Your Remote Users

Pbxnsip’s PBX makes it easy for companies provide access for remote workers. A built-in mini session border controller means users can access the system, regardless of whether they're using a NAT or are connecting from a public Internet address.

This is made possible because the PBX can run with several IP addresses, which can be set to either public or private.

7. It is Affordable

You don’t have to pay a fortune to buy the PBX. It gives you an excellent price performance ratio and it keeps your supports costs as low as possible. You buy a product, not a service or a development platform.

Stredicke said that, in most cases, when companies set up communications systems the biggest expense is phones, not the PBX. Or, at least, it should be that way—and certainly is when it comes to pbxnsip’s PBX.

8. It Offers Basic and Advanced Features

Pbxnsip’s solution has all the features you expect from a PBX, and then some. Not only does it include auto attendants, hunt groups, mailboxes, and a conference mixer, but is also supports call recording, paging, and call agent groups.

All of this is important because, as Stredicke put it, when customers call it is vital they are met with a professional phone system.
