IP Telephony Is Better With IP Phones
By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

A lot of businesses have moved over to an IP telephony system for its cost-effective features, and it has become the hub of most business processes and communications. It can save almost half of the traditional phone bills and do a lot more than a landline connection, but in order to use IP telephony more efficiently, using the right IP phones can mean getting the most out of your system.

From low cost to portability and feature-rich solutions, a business’ reputation relies on not good, but excellent communications. IP phones come with features like call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller ID and three-way calling, so selecting the right phone from an IP phone maker is a key step to using IP telephony to its fullest potential.

Businesses can see a lot in savings when using IP phones, not to mention they are designed with ergonomics and plenty of features, giving users easy access to the advanced desktop applications enabled by an IP system.

IP phones are moving in a big way to integrate video along with telephony. Users can use their Web cameras to see the other person over the computer monitor and talk to them over the IP handset or use special purpose video phones to see and talk over the large screen available over the IP videophone itself.

With certain higher end IP phones, you could directly connect to the Internet right from your IP Phone (News - Alert) with the built in browser.

What’s nice about IP phones is there is variety when it comes to choosing the right one. There are soft phones that can run on your computer, Voice over Wi-Fi phones that can operate using the wireless network, soft-clients on mobile phones, and of course there are hard IP Phones on the desk. If you invest in an IP system, it’s not a bad idea to get the hardware with additional features to work alongside it, giving you optimal benefits.

VoIP and IP telephony are bringing voice into your network, just like all the other applications that you have been using for years, such as email, databases, and instant messaging. Why not get a phone that matches all of the benefits?
