Get the Most out of snom's IP Phones with Microsoft Lync Enabled UC Edition

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

As a prominent IP phone provider in the Unified Communications (UC) space, snom has been pioneering ways of integrating its IP devices and Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync servers since the platform was first released in early 2011.

In a recent webinar, snom experts explained the features and benefits of using its IP phones with the Microsoft Lync platform for UC in the enterprise.

The presentation, “Accelerate Microsoft Lync Deployments with snom UC -How to Deliver Lync to the Enterprise with snom’s New IP Phone Portfolio,” explored the entire snom UC product portfolio as well as improved features from the MS Lync server that allow snom’s IP phones to provide an all encompassing UC solution for the enterprise.

snom’s IP phone portfolio consists of four different desktop phones including the snom UC600, the snom 300, the snom 821 and the snom 370 (available Q1 of 2012), all of which are qualified for MS Lync. Each phone provides the benefits of the MS platform with the reliability of snom IP phones at the scalability necessary for each individual customer.

The snom UC600 is a basic Microsoft based USB phone with a handset and speakerphone, while the snom UC300 provides heightened scalability with a cost effective open-SIP-based device which registers to MS Office Communication Server 2007 R2 and MS Lync 2010. The snom 821, on the other hand, is the first qualified device on MS’ UC platform with extended feature support for even greater performance and the snom 370, which has yet to be released, is a receptionist’s dream with optional extension panels with presence status on LEDs.

According to one presenter, Tommy Lee (News - Alert), director of Partner Alliance for snom, snom Microsoft Lync Server 2010 qualified phones stand apart in a Lync unified communications environment since they are the first for Multi-tenent Hosted Lync including unique addtional, future proof features such as presence, director search, call fowarding and MWI, flexible and customizable options and they also support migration strategies with ease.

Lee and presenter Paul Jamieson, director of carrier sales for the North American division of snom, also discussed snom’s Lync in a box promotion which is valid though June 30, 2012 and provides the chance to utilize up to 100 free IP phones, including the four Lync ready phones previously mentioned.
