snom's Storella Talks snom Phone Systems with TMCnet at InterOp

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

TMCnet never passes up an opportunity to meet with IP phone provider snom when they can and earlier this month at Interop was no exception. TMC CEO, Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) had the chance to sit down with snom COO, Mike Storella at Interop in Las Vegas a couple weeks back to discuss what’s new with the company and its involvement at the show.

Storella said that snom had a great 2010 and is proud to report that 2011 is shaping up nicely as well. He credits snom’s success to the company’s products and the fact that the IP communications space is a growing market.

One accomplishment that he noted is the successful relationship with Microsoft (News - Alert) on its Lync and OCS products that are interoperable with snom phones.

“That has really catapulted us in some business areas that frankly, we weren’t in before in the enterprise space,” Storella said.

With news of the recent Skype (News - Alert) acquisition by Microsoft, on everyone’s minds, Storella said it is going to be interesting to see what happens and if snom will get involved in what the acquisition has to offer.  Storella said that while many of us may consider Microsoft a “sleepy, old software company,” the company is now entering the voice business, which will be great for snom.

Storella adds that snom is “ubiquitous with everyone on the planet” that uses SIP protocol or VoIP. snom phones can connect to Microsoft platforms as well as Broadsoft and Metaswitch platforms.

One thing snom’s COO is noticing is that professionals utilizing IP communications want their desk phones to be modern looking.

“They want color, they want touch, and they want it to show directories that match other directories in the cloud.  Users want to answer any phone call on any device they have, whether that be a smartphone or a business deskphone and they want it to happen seamlessly,” Storella said.

Luckily for snom customers, the company’s desktop phones and phone systems offer just that.  Keep an eye out for snom in the near future as the company is growing, with customers in 60 countries and 200 distributors. Storella added that the company is always expanding markets and products they bring to market, so they intend to continue the success for years to come.
