Amcom Announces Mobile Connect for Cisco Wireless IP Multimedia Phones and Cius Tablets

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Amcom Software, a subsidiary of USA Mobility (News - Alert), announced the launch of Amcom Mobile Connect version 2.3, an encrypted smartphone and tablet messaging solution that runs on Cisco (News - Alert) wireless IP phones and Cius tablets.

The messaging solution now supports two-way messaging with full message traceability to Cisco Unified Wireless IP phones (7925G/7926G) and the new Cisco Cius tablet, company officials said.

Mobile Connect allows clinicians and administrators to use a single device to send messages ranging from notification of code calls and other critical messages to non-urgent communications. The app can separate critical messages from less important e-mails and SMS messages using priority-based ringtones.

Amcom continues to focus on enabling messages to be sent to an ever-broader array of devices to support the diversity of communications tools different staff members use in today’s hospitals, company officials said.

Currently Amcom Mobile Connect supports Spanish, French, Italian, and German. The solution now automatically detects the language of the device and displays the menu and settings accordingly.

“We continue our development focus on this popular product and are evolving its capabilities based on new devices in the market and input from our growing list of customers,” said Chris Heim, president, Amcom Software, in a statement. “Adding Cisco wireless IP phone and tablet support broadens the ways this powerful system can be used in hospitals to support a variety of staff.”

Amcom Mobile Connect is also available for BlackBerry, iPhone, and Android (News - Alert) smartphones.

Amcom has been a member of the Cisco Developer Community since 2003. The company maintains certifications on a number of products which integrate with Cisco Unified Communications (News - Alert) applications and devices. This latest release of Amcom Mobile Connect builds on this technology framework, company officials said.

Recently Amcom announced that Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center is combining Amcom Software’s E911 system with its call center solutions to alert both the public safety answering point as well as on-site personnel when people need immediate assistance.
