Toshiba Unveils IP Media Server for Small Businesses

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Toshiba (News - Alert) recently released the new IPedge EP as part of its IPedge family of pure IP media server systems. Toshiba first launched its IPedge IP media server business telephone system in June of this year.

IPedge EP is specifically designed for small businesses with up to 40 users per server. The IP media server solution empowers its users to communicate effectively and have greater access to their customers, partners and each other.

The IPedge EP can accommodate multiple unified communication applications on a single Linux IP media server. It can deliver call processing, voicemail, unified messaging, native session initiation protocol (SIP) line and SIP trunk support, mobility, survivability, networking with other IPedge or Strata CIX systems and feature-rich telephone endpoints.

The IP media server solution can also support add-on applications including meet-me conferencing with Web collaboration, uMobility fixed mobile convergence (FMC) and contact center solutions.

Additionally, this IP media server supports business continuity and a higher level of security. A single IP address provides cost-effective deployment. IPedge can seamlessly integrate with SIP trunks, without requiring additional gateway equipment.

Built on IP technology and open standards, IPedge EP works for the long term because future endpoint devices and applications are built on standards that will help to ensure compatibility with the system, thus protecting the user's investment.

IPedge IP media server features the call manager application with unified communications, enabling users to combine the capabilities of their computers and their Toshiba telephones into powerful communication tools. Features of call manager include presence, chat, instant messaging, and CRM integration with programs including SalesForce.com, Act!, and Microsoft (News - Alert) Outlook.

The Enterprise Manager browser-based system administration allows the administrator to manage trunks and stations when IPedge EP is being used independently. The centralized multi-site management through the Enterprise Manager allows the IPedge EP to be a member node of an enterprise system in which an IPedge EC or EM server is the primary node.

Currently, the IPedge IP media server is available in three models. IPedge EM supports up to 1,000 users per server, IPedge EC supports up to 200 users per server and IPedge EP supports up to 40 users per server.
