Cogeco Data Services Launches New Suite of Communication Offerings Made Possible Through Use of an IP Media Server

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

Cogeco Data Services has rolled out a new suite of voice and data services that it believes will help SMBs and enterprises operate more efficiently.

The new portfolio of solutions is headlined by a Voice Services component that relies on Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) Trunking, which is made possible by IP media servers. These media-processing platforms help business customers deploy next-generation communications services – including audio and video conferencing, unified messaging and interactive voice response applications – even if they don't own an IP PBX (News - Alert) solution.

When paired with an IP media server, Cogeco's new offering can enable organizations to use their existing TDM PBX to leverage the power of advanced voice technologies. The suite of voice services will also allow such organizations to smoothly transition to IP technologies when they are ready to make the investment.

"As businesses look to manage current and future IT needs, it is important to consider the ability of services to adapt seamlessly to future technologies," Virginia Brailey, vice president of marketing at Cogeco Data Services, noted in a statement. "Our new offering can evolve and grow with a business at their pace allowing for great flexibility."

Cogeco also announced a new suite of intuitive and easy-to-implement data services. The first is a Managed IP VPN service that is designed to aid businesses in the prioritization of their data traffic.

The Layer 3 MPLS-based connection can help a company expand its footprint by unifying branch offices, vendors, suppliers and other locations over a secure and fully managed network.

The second offering provided in the data suit is a Managed Ethernet service. This Layer 2 MPLS-based connection provides businesses with visibility and control over the specific routing of their network.

"These offerings simplify the convergence of technical infrastructure and help businesses operate more efficiently," added Brailey. "In turn, that frees up valuable time for business leaders to focus on growing their business."

The Managed IP VPN and Managed Ethernet services are both compatible with Cogeco's Voice Services offering.
