Calltrade Carrier Services AG, provider of international telecommunication services, has selected the Sonus SBC 5000 Series of session border controllers from Sonus Networks (News - Alert). These session border controllers are to be used as part of the company’s wholesale voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.

Sonus will deploy its SBCs at Calltrade interconnect borders, the demarcation points that facilitate the connection of two networks. The will also serve to enhance the safety of these networks by monitoring and enforcing service level agreements. The service is important for Calltrade, as it handles more than 15 billion minutes of voice traffic per year for fixed-line providers, mobile phone companies and cable companies.

Obviously, such a large volume of operations cannot be handled by ordinary solutions. So, Sonus Networks will make use of its SBC 5200 Series, which provides state of the art media services and protocol interworking capabilities. These services provide easy communication with other service providers, with advanced routing and integrated transcoding features. SBC 5200 Series also provides support for 64,000 sessions on a single server.

Sonus reputation is underscored by its appearance in Leaders quadrant of Gartner’s (News - Alert) "Magic Quadrant for Session Border Controllers" for two consecutive years. The company was also named to the 2013 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators in the U.S. for a second consecutive year.
