Astraqom, a provider of online community platforms leveraging IP communications, announced the official launch of PinoyKubo, a social network targeting Filipina and Filipino expatriates, business people and students who are in the Philippines as well as abroad.

The social networking platform will also find popularity among those who are interested to develop business with those in the Philippines, or those who wish to learn Tagalog and/or just be immersed in the exciting Philippines world culture, the company said.

PinoyKubo began in beta form in mid 2011, and in just three months, gained over 50,000 friendships, according to Astraqom officials.

The PinoyKubo social platform is the result of several hours of hard work, dedicated to building our unique social media site, said Jonathan Sowah, founder of PinoyKubo.

“It is a reminder of how very multi-talented, colorful, bright and stimulating the people, architecture, music, business, games, movies, books, schools, science and more are to the world,” Sowah added. “We want to share opportunities with others to collaborate in entrepreneurship, entertainment, arts and other areas via PinoyKubo.”

PinoyKubo , according to company officials, is a unique harmony that provides more than just a basic social media encounter. “It is a celebration of the strong social bonds that are evident among friends and family among and with The Philippines people.”

The platform will provide its members with an opportunity to fulfill short and long term social and entrepreneurial goals.  They can use the platform to make friends, share their feelings, as well as discover and employ new methods and tools to reach social and business goals.

Social media platforms provide businesses with great promotional opportunities. Businesses and other organizations can elicit immeasurable opportunities by engaging the group via sponsorships, ads, partnering options, and special events, and be an important part of 2011 and future image and branding.

The company also plans to launch PinoyKubo users' virtual stores where they can buy and sell with each other via PayPal (News - Alert), a comprehensive game archive with over 14,000 different games and activities, and other social-oriented and fun activities available in the market.

Social media is instrumental in the growth of small businesses today. A TMCnet report published in March talks about the growing popularity of social media among small businesses. The report finds that the most common online marketing techniques currently being used by small businesses are a company Web site (86 percent) followed by social media (44 percent).
