The advantages of hosted VoIP solutions are often touted to the enterprise as a viable opportunity to change out the legacy infrastructure for something less expensive, more customizable and easier to manage. For the small business or residential environment, the offerings have been somewhat limited – until now. Obihai Technology has announced the release of its OBi5vs Series Universal VoIP Adapters.
The announcement was made at the Internet Telephony Conference and Expo (ITEXPO) in Las Vegas. Audience (News - Alert) members enjoyed a first peek at the solution that was developed for these smaller environments that often require multiple simultaneous voice and fax calling through VoIP. Virtual Stacking technology enables the VoIP adapters to behave as desired and the high performance, versatile call control and secure remote management technology is expected to find favor with users and resellers alike.
The OBe5vs is coupled with the OBiTALK cloud-based management portal, enabling deployment in just about any networking environment that involves voice and data. At the same time, it’s securely and reliably managed from any Internet connection. Administrators can use the Obihai Virtual Stacking Technology to scale their networks efficiently through the virtual increase of the port-capacity of the VoIP network assets within the OBi5vs Series devices.
With extreme flexibility, the OBi5vs Series is extremely flexible, with configurations possible for a number of different applications. Business users rely on premise-based and open-standards platforms that include PBX in a Flash (News - Alert), FreePBX and other SIP-based systems. The series can also be deployed in those environments where the business is relying on a hosted service, including those from Vitelity, Broadvox (News - Alert), Anveo, Callcentric and more.
Hardware features include a 4 port Ethernet switch; 3 USB2.0 ports; 4 FXO phone line ports; 1 FXO phone line port with relay; 1 line-in audio port (front); 1 line-out audio port (front); 12v external power adapter; and a desktop, wall or 19’ rack mountable, durable metal enclosure with a Kensington lock port.
Software features extend to a number of capabilities, including call signaling for up to 8 voice services; OBiTALK Calling that allows for voice communications between smartphone apps and OBi devices; VoIP Codecs; Fax over IP; Obihai call routing and bridging technology; secure provisioning and management; and global localization.
With the launch of this service for an underserved segment of the market, we’re likely to see demand grow for powerful hosted VoIP available for the smaller environment.
