Managed Services Spending to Stay Strong Through to 2017

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Telecommunications growth in the years ahead is more or less a given. However, according to a recent market study from Insight Research, global business spending will grow at an annual compound rate of 11.3 percent over the next five years, while general business spending on telecommunications services is expected to plod along in the low single digits.

Curiously, while slow economic growth will reduce spending on basic telecommunications and IT services in the coming years, many businesses will turn to managed services as a cost-effective alternative to increasing internal staff. As such, revenue made in the U.S. managed services market is forecasted to increase from $34 billion in 2013 to $51 billion by 2017, while managed services spending worldwide will hit $152 billion this year alone.

The small to medium-sized business (SMB) market in particular is likely to play a role in the growth of managed services as companies such as Unified Office, Inc. have recently started to put greater emphasis on the needs of SMBs.

"A large percentage of business activity now depends on the Internet for everything from electronic commerce to intranet applications to customer service," said Fran Caulfield, research director for Insight Research. "These data applications are driving exponential traffic growth onto corporate networks, while increasing their complexity. Managed Services allow corporations to handle this growth, while outsourcing the most complicated elements to the skilled service provider."

REVE Systems’ hosted iTel Switch Plus offers monthly payment options as low as $290 per month and integrates a VoIP billing system, iTel Billing, so no additional billing software needs to be installed by the business.

Earlier this year, the company launched their new iTel Mobile Hybrid Dialer offering a single platform to service providers looking to offer VoIP calls and calling card usage. With the offering, users are able to go pin-less and number-less and no longer need a pin number or a destination number.
