inContact Focuses on Cloud Security Threats in the Hosted Call Center

Being the best there is in the field for SaaS (News - Alert) contact center services requires diligence, attention to detail, and top-level customer service. But, perhaps most important of all, is a particular focus on cloud security, and the relevant cloud security threats.

Provider of hosted call center software, inContact, was recently able to hit the Black Hat USA conference. inContact not only exposed a variety of threats to cloud services, but also provided some insight on how best to protect cloud systems against those threats.

One of the most telling sessions at the Black Hat USA conference for inContact was the session in which Dr. Charlie Miller, a PhD in Mathematics whose name carries a great deal of weight in the hacker community, managed to hack both the Nexus S and Nokia (News - Alert) 9 smartphones by accessing their NFC--Near Field Communications--capabilities. Miller demonstrated measures by which a hacker could not only break into a phone remotely, but also enable its Bluetooth, upload and download files, and even place calls just by having the phone within a few feet of the virus-enhanced chips.

Worse, there are measures that hackers can take--one of which is known as the Bluetooth Sniper Rifle--that can be engaged from fairly long distances, even while the phone is in a pocket.

This is a difficult problem for anyone, especially for inContact, to try and get a handle on. After all, how can anyone protect against a problem that can access a phone while it's turned off, and in a pocket?

That's just the kind of thing that inContact is working to stop, and the sheer exposure to such a problem has left them thinking of several ways to defend against it and advance their case to reach the top of the cloud security field. It requires a great deal of innovation, and that's the kind of innovation that inContact is going to need in order to ensure that the cloud is a safe place to be for all of us.
