Can a something as simple as a headset really offer increased productivity?
As the first article in a four part series dedicated to the Sennheiser Communications’ (News
) revolutionary BW900, this edition details how common problems with wireless headsets- ones that affected productivity and costs- were resolved.
Sennheiser told TMCnet the concept for the headset came from a need for a headset that could connect to everything without sacrificing range and call quality. "We wanted it to sound like a wired headset regardless of your location in your office- or for that matter- the planet."
Sennheiser recently detailed the top elements of this productivity-enhancing tool and the benefits it provides to multitasking phone warriors.
Call Quality was chief among the elements the headset required because call quality is critical to professionalism and each call requires a guarantee that communication is successful. After all, what good is a wireless headset if you can't have the same level of quality communications you have while wired? Sennheiser has been manufacturing award winning headphones and microphones being used in today’s most important media outlets (TV, radio/recordings, film) for over 60 years, even winning the Technical Grammy, Emmy and Academy Awards in the process.
Range was also important in the design of the headset. As the workspace grows, and human interaction is more important than ever before, clear communication without dropping a conversation is a must for mobility. This is also important for multitasking. What good is a wireless communications device, without the ability to multitask at all times? The BW900’s range spans up to 300 ft., ensuring that office or mobile calls reach the far corners of nearly any business.
Battery Life played an important role in designing the headset as well. Adequate battery life means 'multitaskers' and those needing to communicate for long periods can be on the phone all day without having to stop working and get on a restrictive wireline phone call to allow the device charge—Where's the efficiency in that? The BW900 features a hot-swappable battery system that allows the user to replace an exhausted battery, mid-call, without losing the connection. This process can be repeated for unlimited battery life.
Quality/Construction along with warranty and service were also a main focus for Sennheiser in building the BW900 because they knew that you often get what you pay for. Cheap, inexpensive wireless solutions use cheap, inexpensive components and materials to shave costs. The BW900 offers a 2-year warranty and user-replaceable battery to increase the products’ ROI. A question to ask- when the battery dies in your current wireless solution and you have run out of warranty, how much will you end up paying? Have you factored in the costs associated with missed phone calls and inhibited productivity? How long can you survive without a headset solution? Service and reliability are better measures for “cost” than a sticker price indicates. Inexpensive BW900 batteries can be purchased and field replaced to minimize downtime and maximize productivity…even out of warranty.
