HD Voice Advantages Increase Uptake

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

The benefits of HD Voice have been clear for quite some time, not only for vastly improved call quality, but also because HD Voice can reduce fatigue and offers a host of business benefits.

HD Voice delivers higher quality sound over traditional narrowband calls, and is so clear users never struggle to understand what the voice on the other line is saying.

By reducing the need for users to waste “brain power” interpreting the words coming from the other side of the phone line, or possibly misunderstanding anything that’s been said, business can also benefit from happier, healthier employees.  This is especially important in businesses where being accurate and working quickly through conversations is key.

Doug Mohney, editor-in-chief of HD Voice News and a TMCnet contributor, recently highlighted a Wainhouse (News - Alert) Research study that focused on 12 predictions for 2012. One prediction included in the study was an increased demand in better sound quality.

“We’ll see increased demand for better sound in the conferencing experience, as end users finally realize that the image —whether it’s 3D, ‘immersive’, ‘telepresence’, or holographic—is worthless if you can’t hear what they’re saying,” senior analyst Mark R. Mayfield, was quoted as saying.

In addition, Mohney noted other research which predicts that HD Voice should grow significantly over the next three years.

“Anyone involved in telephony who is not tracking HD voice better wake up fast,” said Mohney.

Just this week, Callvine (News - Alert) announced a new HD Voice Conferencing App that promises better business communications using the industry-standard G722.1 wideband codec licensed from Polycom.

Also, Fraunhofer (News - Alert) started a buzz in the industry with their promise of a new “full-HD” voice quality offering which will be demoed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress show next week. Read more HERE.
