The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Calit2, is an institute dedicated to ensuring that the state maintains leadership in cutting-edge technologies and industries. To ensure that they are effectively collaborating at all times, researchers at the institute have turned to LifeSize Communications for their High Definition (HD) Videoconferencing solutions.
Using HD videoconferencing solutions from LifeSize (News - Alert), they are able to reduce the need to travel, collaborate more effectively and increase their overall productivity.
“Video is a part of our core collaborative efforts and LifeSize has an ‘always-on’ capability that works very well for us,” said Doug Ramsey, Calit2’s director of communications. “Because it’s reliable and easy to handle, we use it everyday.”
LifeSize Communications
reported record sales in the second half of 2008 as well as close to 150 percent growth for the full year. The company’s HD videoconferencing solutions offer high quality telepresence experiences that make interactions natural and as though all participants are in the same physical location.
TMC President, Rich Tehrani (News - Alert),
met with Colin Buechler, Senior VP Marketing of LifeSize back in October of last year. As a key reason company’s should look to video communications solutions, Buechler cited statistics from Wainhouse Research who says the video communications space grew at 37 percent last year and research from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) that says the market will grow 20 percent for the next five years.
“Estimates like this are obviously good reason for companies in this space to be optimistic about their collective futures. In addition, it should be enough for companies to consider looking seriously at video communications solutions,” Tehrani wrote.
Calit2’s research team has two of the world’s three highest-resolution scientific display systems and works to further collaboration for the digital future and “extend involvement beyond faculty to students, industry, government, and community partners.”
To meet their collaboration needs, the researchers said they needed an “everyday” video communications system that was affordable and that provided a good visual experience.
“After reviewing several HD videoconferencing systems, we found that the features-packed LifeSize Room system offered significant image quality improvement over traditional SD systems, at a reasonable price,” said Hector Bracho, senior producer and director at Calit2.
“The affordability of LifeSize products allowed us to quickly deploy the units in our building, keeping in line with Calit2’s philosophy of working at the cutting-edge of technology.”
Back in February, LifeSize also announced LifeSize Control 4.0, a new full-featured video network management platform to offer users centralized management and control of various video communications networks.
