HD Videoconferencing Helping Companies Go 'Green'

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Businesses today are under more pressure than ever to not only cut costs wherever possible, but also to be more responsible for the environment and their carbon footprints. One way businesses have discovered they can cut down their C02 emissions is by making use of videoconferencing sessions.

Videoconferencing provides a way for businesses to meet with clients, customers and partners face-to-face over the Web. This makes it convenient for users to attend meetings no matter where they are located and saves companies from shelling out money on high gas prices while also protecting the environment.

While videoconferencing experiences may have not been so great in the past due to low quality and high equipment costs, HD videoconferencing removes these barriers and presents a strategic service for companies.

The Travel Industry Association (TIA (News - Alert)) has said it's seeing a declining number of air travelers. This news further strengthens the validity of conferencing services in the businesses world.

In addition to the cost savings of videoconferencing, using the services reduces pollution and has become central to efforts to reduce carbon footprints. Frost & Sullivan has found that the audio conferencing and bridging market is increasing and earned revenues of $116.3 million in 2007. They are also predicting that the market will reach $200 million in 2014.

HD Video conferencing goes beyond just telephone and email communications and provides an immersive telepresence experience for communications that are realistic and foster successful, meaningful dialog.

Colin Buechler, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LifeSize, a HD videoconferencing solutions provider said, “High definition video delivers cost savings immediately and boosts productivity quickly. It is the best investment you can make with your IT dollar – or your travel budget.”

“Business travelers are targeted with the highest-priced tickets because, until now, there was no good alternative to a face-to-face meeting. Now, high definition makes video communication a pleasant business experience. The image is clear. The motion is fluid. It feels natural, like being in the same room with someone.”
