As a developer of fax over IP technology, and products that improve communications and information sharing in SIP networks, Commetrex (News - Alert) has taken note of industry developments and the recent changes in the fax and FoIP industries. By creating the Smart ATA solution, Commetrex unveiled the industry’s first ATA to feature smart FoIP.
The company is planning on featuring the solution at ITEXPO (News - Alert) West 2011 in Austin, TX, from September 12-15. Commetrex’s CEO, Mike Coffee, recently described the product as the solution to the “late T.38 re-Invite problem,” and he will be at the company’s booth at the conference, #722, to shed more light on how exactly Commetrex makes FoIP work.
To get some more insight into how exactly Commetrex has been developing its solutions, particularly the Smart ATA, TMC’s (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani, sat down with Coffee to discuss what the company is bringing to the table at ITEXPO West 2011, and what differentiates it from the other FoIP vendors out there. Check out the full exchange below, and register for the conference to witness how Commetrex is changing the FoIP field:
RT: I understand that you’re launching a new product at the ITEXPO West show in September. Can you tell us about it?
MC: We’re launching a new product called Smart ATA. It’s an ATA – or analog telephone adapter – that includes Smart FoIP, our patent-pending technology that solves three big problems faced by FoIP users. Smart FoIP eliminates the problems caused by late-arriving T.38 re-Invites from the receiving gateway, which can cause the call to fail if the re-Invite is accepted when it should actually be rejected. The technology also increases the likelihood of a session remaining in G.711 fax pass-through mode, so it also includes a major technology advance that eliminates PCM-clock synchronization problems, which are responsible for a large percentage of G.711 pass-through fax failures. And the third major feature of Smart FoIP is that it supports T.38 V3 with V.34, making Smart ATA the industry’s first to support V.34.
RT: Who is your target audience for Smart ATA?
MC: Primarily ITSPs – or Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Service Providers. With Smart ATA, ITSPs will be able to allow their subscribers to turn their legacy fax terminals and phones into IP appliances. With Smart ATA, their subscribers will press send, walk away, and when they return, the fax has been sent, no ifs, ands, or buts. We like to say that they won’t have to tell their customers to, “Keep your POTS for fax.”
RT: How is Smart ATA different from other products now on the market?
MC: I believe Smart ATA is the first ATA that supports V.34 and it will be the only ATA on the market that addresses the FoIP issues of re-Invite synchronization and G.711 PCM clock-sync. We have found that in broadcast-fax tests these last two features improve the connect rate of FoIP over carrier networks by up to 10%.
RT: Where can our readers get more information on Smart ATA?
MC: Commetrex’ sister company, NetGen Communications, is handling the ordering and distribution for us on Smart ATA. Anyone who wants more info can visit their web site at www.netgencommunications.com or call 770-449-7704.
