Calix E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform Gains RUS Acceptance

Calix (News - Alert), a North American provider of broadband communications access systems and software for copper- and fiber-based network architectures that help service providers connect to their residential and business subscribers, announced that its E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform has received Rural Development Telecommunications acceptance from the Rural Utilities Service division of the United States Department of Agriculture.

The RUS listing will help CSPs to access RUS loans funded to promote the deployment of broadband services throughout the United States, with a special emphasis on rural development, said Petaluma, Calif.-based Calix.

Available now, the E7 is a highly extensible, standards-based Ethernet service access platform that offers CSPs a modular chassis-based option to address the emerging bandwidth challenges of an increasingly all-video world, according to Calix.

Leveraging the Calix Ethernet eXtensible Architecture, the EXA Powered E7 is now a core part of the Calix Unified Access Infrastructure, and provides a wide range of GPON, point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet, Active Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet services and deployment options for CSP networks.

“We installed our first E7 over two months ago and it has been delivering advanced IPTV (News - Alert) services in our network ever since,” said Joe Corbin, vice president of operations, Horizon Telcom, Chillicothe, Ohio. “We have found the platform to be extremely simple to implement and maintain, reducing our turn-up times from one to two days for other solutions to less than an hour for the E7.”

This difference means reduced operations costs, as well as significantly faster time-to-market with advanced solutions, Corbin said.

“Our partnership with Calix continues to allow us to streamline our operations and bring best-in-class applications to our broadband and video subscribers,” he added.

In December, Calix received notification from the USDA indicating that the Technical Standards Committee “A” for Telecommunications had granted RD Telecommunications Program acceptance to Calix for the E7. This addition will be reflected in the next update of the agency’s List of Acceptable Materials.
