Intellon, a provider of HomePlug-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, has  opened  new headquarters in Orlando.

 

The offices,  just north of Orlando International Airport (OIA), will host Intellon staff that designs and produces advanced ICs to allow end-users to turn home or office electrical wiring into a high-speed network for the transmission of high definition and standard definition television (TV), Internet protocol TV (IPTV (News - Alert)), high-bandwidth Internet sharing and file sharing.

 

"Our global business requires meetings with executives from leading companies across the world, and we also need the services and resources available in a major metropolitan area," said Charlie Harris, CEO and Chairman of Intellon Corp.

 

Harris says products based on Intellon's ICs are used to connect a wide variety of products including home gateways and routers, personal computers,  set-top boxes, digital media adapters, flat-screen TVs, game consoles and security cameras.

 

 "With the opening of our corporate headquarters here, we can easily facilitate customer, analyst, board and standards groups meetings that will often be attended by representatives from around the world in a facility just outside the Orlando airport," he said.

 

Intellon is the market share leader in HomePlug-based powerline ICs and has shipped over 23 million of these ICs to date. In fact, most of the company's products are based on global standards published by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance.

 In 2007, INC. magazine ranked Intellon as number 19 on its list of the 100 fastest growing companies in the computers and electronics industry.

 

The company’s ICs are used throughout the world by over 45 major cable, telephone and satellite service providers such as AT&T, Chunghwa Telecom (News - Alert), DirecTV, Dish Network among others, according to the company.
