The industrial automation solution vendor Moxa recently announced the availability of PowerTrans PT-7528 series of Ethernet switches. The unique selling point of the new product-line lies in its compliance with the IEC (News - Alert) 61850-90-4 – a standard for the design of electrical substation automation – requirements.

Developed for power substation automation applications, Moxa’s Noise Gurad technology-based PT-7528 series boasts EMC (News - Alert) immunity, critical packet prioritization (GOOSE, SMVs, and PTP) capability, a built-in MMS server, and a configuration wizard.

Electromagnetic compatibility or EMC aims to ensure that equipment items or systems will not interfere with or prevent each other's correct operation through spurious emission and absorption of EMI (electromagnetic interference). PT-7528 series’ EMC immunity exceeds IEEE (News - Alert) 1613 Class 2 standards, which minimizes packet loss while transmitting at wire speed.

The features such as critical packet prioritization, Gigabit Ethernet, redundant ring, and 110/220 VDC/VAC isolated redundant power supplies have been added to increases the reliability of communications.

A built-in MMS server, and a configuration wizard has been designed specifically for substation automation.

There are other benefits as well. Coming in a wide range of models, the PT-7528 series allows for multi-type port configurations.

Then its flexible modular design allows for installing up to 4 modular fiber ports and 24 fixed 10/100BaseT(X) RJ45 ports of the PT-7528 and makes network planning easy.

Along with the optional front or rear wiring, these features together make the PT-7528 suitable for a variety of industrial applications.

“Support for IEC 61850-90-4 data modeling allows Moxa’s PT-7528 Ethernet switches to be controlled, monitored, and managed via a power SCADA system, which is critical for reliable electrical substation operation and eliminates the need for additional network management software,” manager of Moxa Power Communication Infrastructure division Dennis Lin, explained in a statement.
