Kontron (News - Alert) has unveiled its new VX3920 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet switch intended to enhance data throughput in network-centric OpenVPX applications.
Officials revealed that the managed Layer 2/Layer 3 switch Kontron VX3920 features 24 high-throughput 10 Gbit/s ports to the data plane, which are saleable to up to 40 Gbit/s by channel bundling. OEMs can benefit by using these switches for inter and intra-system communication,m designed to enhance the performance of applications, the company said.
The presence of high port density and bandwidth makes the IPv4/v6 VXP switch suitable for COTS systems as a backbone and infrastructure building block in mobile as well as stationary ground based, naval and airborne applications.
The switch can also be used in high-performance embedded computing (HPEC) systems for radar, sonar and image processing, as well as “vetronics” systems (vehicle electronics) and other rapidly deployable networks. Kontron explained that it is versatile enough for networking in complex system clusters, as seen in military intelligence and surveillance applications or in naval vessels.
The Kontron VX 3920 comes with system interconnection 2x SFP+ cages for 10 Gigabit Ethernet which can be used with copper or fiber-optic cables for long distance networking. To streamline management and debugging, an EIA-232-port is provided, which can be routed to the backplane.
The switch can be air cooled for use in environmental temperatures of 0°C up to +55°C or can be configured to withstand an extended temperature range from -40°C up to +85°C, said officials.
Kontron also announced that its Cab-n-Connect wireless access point (CWAP) was selected by Row 44 for its high-speed Wi-Fi installations. Row 44, a subsidiary of Global Eagle Entertainment, provides in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity and device-based entertainment content for airlines around the world.
