Global Internet traffic growth is contributing to increase in bandwidth demand, data center consolidation, and virtualization and thus the demand for 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps Ethernet controllers and adapters are increasing spontaneously.

According to a recently report released by Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group,10 Gbps Ethernet controller and adapter revenue and shipments grew up by 14 percent and 16 percent respectively in 2Q13.

The Dell'Oro Group Controller and Adapter Quarterly Report offers a detailed analysis of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, unit, and port shipments (by speed 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, and 40 Gbps) for Ethernet and Fibre Channel Over Ethernet (FCoE) controllers.

"10 Gbps port shipments finally surged in the second quarter, following two consecutive quarters of surprising declines in this emerging market," said Sameh Boujelbene, Senior Analyst covering Controller and Adapter research at Dell'Oro Group.

The report showcases that there is increase in the competition and innovation in the 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps Ethernet Adapters market, which is bringing together vendors from the High Performance Computing, Storage Area Networking, and Local Area Networking arenas.

Boujelbene further added, "Nevertheless, we see this rebound as being reflective of the depletion of excess inventory witnessed over the course of the second half of 2012, rather than as an acceleration of the 10 Gbps adoption rate. While 10 Gbps shipments continue to be strong in High Performance Computing and Cloud accounts, recent interviews we conducted revealed that adoption from Enterprise customers remained slow.”

The report talks about the ways 10 Gbps migration took place and advantages using stand-alone servers and blade servers etc. The report indicates that growth took place after blade server shipments, which were fast to move to 10 Gbps, as well as from some specific deployment scenarios with stand-alone servers.

The reports include comes with coverage on InfiniBand controllers, adapters and also the details regarding daughter adapter shipments, which had an excellent quarter.
