Extreme Networks, a provider of high performance cloud and data center solution, is helping Falcon Broadband build network infrastructure to deliver Internet and Wide Area Network (WAN) services to all of Falcon School District 49 in Colorado.
The project uses Extreme Networks (News - Alert) Open Fabric solution consisting of Summit series switches. It has utilized 15 miles of new fiber to be constructed to connect all 20 of the districts locations into the existing Falcon Broadband network.
Leveraging ExtremeXOS, Extreme Networks provides high performance Ethernet switching for campus, cloud, data center and mobile networks and drive open standards networking to enhance the delivery of applications and make networks simple to manage.
Extreme Networks Open Fabric solution helps the school district support data transfer in its private cloud and public Internet access. It will help expand and deploy a new Internet and WAN infrastructure based on a custom solution designed for the Colorado based school district.
"We require total availability from our new network as we need an infrastructure that scales for thousands of different end-users and thousands of different devices," said Stephanie Wurtz, public information officer for Falcon School District 49.
"Our experience with Extreme Networks and Falcon Broadband has been exceptional as the design, delivery and installation of the solution have been completed by the start of the new school year,” Wurtz added.
The project was completed in a tight deadline. It faced some unexpected delays due to tough sandstone rock areas. The construction delays left nine locations unconnected with only one month to work before the school year started on August 1st.
Falcon Broadband succeeded in getting all the locations active by the first day of school.
In related news, Extreme Networks, and its partner TasmaNet, recently demonstrated software-defined networking (SDN) in action at the recently concluded TasmaNet Tasmanian ICT Conference (TASICT) in Hobart.
