DukeNet Communications, a telecommunications service provider, has recently earned Metro Ethernet Forum’s (News - Alert) (MEF) Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification.

Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, DukeNet Communications offers robust fiber network solutions for data centers, wireless, carriers, government, healthcare, manufacturing, finance, education, and enterprise across the region. In addition, for more than 100 years, Duke Energy (News - Alert) Corporation has been one of the largest and most reliable electric providers in the nation.

The company has now received Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification from the MEF (News - Alert)- the defining body for Carrier Ethernet. The MEF is a global industry alliance comprising more than 215 organizations including telecommunications service providers, cable MSOs, network equipment/software manufacturers, semiconductors vendors and testing organizations.

“CE 2.0 certification requires months of collaboration, network setup and testing,” said David Herran, DukeNet’s vice president of network architecture and technology planning. “CE 2.0 certification gives us the ability to confidently tell our customers that we can interconnect without issue. This certification carries a great deal of weight in our industry, and DukeNet is pleased to be among this small but key group of certified carriers.”

The MEF introduced its Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification program last year after a successful “CE 1.0 Certification” program. The CE 2.0 expands the certification to address class of service, manageability and interconnect for four service types that include E-LINE, E-LAN, E-TREE and E-ACCESS.

The MEF Certification Committee oversees the certification programs for equipment, services and professionals, based on test suites developed by the Technical Committee (equipment and services) and professional tests.

“CE 2.0 brings significant value-added benefits, matching enterprise users’ performance needs to services with specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs),” said Nan Chen, president of the MEF.

The latest certification establishes that DukeNet holds the capability to offer high-performance, scalable, cost-effective and standardized Ethernet service.
