Calix Introduces New Level of Flexibility for Advanced Broadband Services

The demand for bandwidth gets used to capacity as soon as it’s made available. Communications service providers are under heavy pressure to provide faster speeds without any glitches. As a global leader in access innovation, Calix (News - Alert) offers broadband service providers the tools they need to make them more efficient.

The new Ethernet eXtensible Architecture (EXA) Powered E3-48C line of Ethernet Service Access Nodes (ESAN) provides a cost-effective and flexible solution for service providers now and into the future.

Although most technology is geared toward fiber, copper still comprises the vast majority of the lines around the world. Until the migration is complete, copper is still a reliable source for delivering data. The Calix E3-48C gives service providers looking to advance broadband services over their existing copper lines the ability to do so, and grow.

The new system simplifies network transformation, and eliminates the need for the overlay of legacy digital loop carrier (DLC) voice services by supporting up to 48 ports of combo VDSL2 and POTS services. It offers multiple high-capacity uplinks, with bonding and vectoring support capability, in a compact, hardened and sealed form factor. It includes AC, DC and remote powering options with support for different type of deployments to give service providers more flexibility.''

"Service providers across North America are seeking to meet the emerging broadband demands of subscribers while balancing the economic realities of deployment. With the addition of the E3-48C to the E3 family of sealed access nodes, the industry's broadest portfolio of flexible access systems both copper and fiber has now expanded, bringing new opportunities for network and business transformation to service providers worldwide," said John Colvin, Calix senior vice president of North America sales and marketing.

E3-48C specifications:

  • 48 ports of VDSL2 with integrated splitters
  • 10GE, 2.5GE, or GE transport
  • ERPS ring, daisy chain, or point-to-point topologies
  • Ethernet aggregation with 2 GE ports
  • AC -48VDC, and line powering options
  • VDSL2 with automatic ADSL2+ fallback
  • VDSL2 and ADSL2+ bonding

The system can be applied for fiber to the node, Fiber to the node Ring inclusion with E7 and C7 10GE rings, Ethernet DSLAM aggregation for Connect America Fund, Multi-dwelling units (apartment complexes) and rural broadband deployments.
