Gefen's New KVM Extenders Hit the Market

TMCnet Contributor

Digital connectivity solution specialist Gefen (News - Alert) has announced three new Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure solutions that claims to enhance the computer accessibility anywhere in the building.

  • HDMI KVM over IP
  • DVI KVM over IP
  • VGA KVM over IP extenders are among the newly released

Gefen  offers a wide range of signal switchers, splitters, extenders, scalers, converters, KVM and home theater accessories that enable audio/video and computer systems to be easily integrated, extended, distributed and optimized to maximize performance.

The new Gefen Extender for HDMI sends 1080p full HD video with USB peripherals, Ethernet connectivity and IR control using two CAT-5 cables, enabling the users to access computer video, audio, and control from any room within the LAN.

The company has built the new HD KVM over IP that extends HDMI, USB, 2-way analog audio, RS-232, and IR, over a Gigabit Local Area Network.  It is HDCP 2.0 compliant and resolutions up to 1080p Full HD and 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) are supported.  A bonus here is that all three extenders’ video formats (VGA, DVI, HDMI) can be interchanged between sender and receiver units over the same network. This means the user has an easy method of multi-format system integration.

The Sender and Receiver units can be automatically or manually configured to unique IP addresses to allow the connection of multiple Senders and Receivers to the same network. Multiple Receiver units can simultaneously connect to any Sender unit within the network to create a virtual crosspoint matrix of up to 16 Senders and multiple Receivers.

“Any one of these new KVM over IP extenders provides accessibility between different rooms, switching and broadcasting information using up to 16 sender and receiver combinations,” said Hagai Gefen, president, Gefen. “You can also place sender and receiver units up to 200 meters apart through the Gigabit switch for increased distances.”

Users can just connect the sender and receiver units using one CAT-5 cable or through the Ethernet switch and these units can be desk top units or can be rack mounted to avail its KVM functionality with audio using the same network. Two USB ports support computer peripheral connectivity at the Receiver unit side.

In addition, the sender and receiver units can be configured to unique IP addresses and comes with built-in EDID management offering signal integrity during all switching activity.

Getting the most out of an all-IP to enable optimal performance from personal devices and multimedia endpoints in the home is why Ethernet extension capabilities from Geffen and companies like channel host Patton are becoming so popular.
