Aurora Multimedia DXE-CAT Extenders Extend HDMI up to 330 Feet

Contributing Writer

Aurora Multimedia just announced the release of its DXE-CAT series HDBaseT CAT extenders. The line consists of three products: the DXE-CAT S1 and the DXE-CAT S2, which offer HDMI extension over CAT 5/5e/6 as a leading member, and the DXE-CAT S2L, which embeds a complete control system into an HDMI CAT Extender.

Both the S2 and the S2L extend HDMI up to 330 feet. The S1, which is more economically priced, extends HDMI 220 feet.

Each extender comes with Tx and Rx units. The units have all of their connectors on one side to provide easy cabling alternatives. The units can be rack-mounted, with three units mounted side-by-side in a 1RU rack space or 16 units mounted upright in a 3RU rack space. The systems’ patent-pending designs Flex-Power PoE designs enable the extenders to be powered via PoE or AC from either side.

The S2 transmits HDMI at up to 1080p, 60 Hz, 48 bit and 330 feet over one CAT 5e/6/7 cable. The extender supports 4K by 2K and HDMI 3D. The units also feature bi-directional RS-232, IR and LAN.

The S2L adds built-in web server for hosting custom web control interfaces. Any connected equipment can be controlled by any device via web browser, and free interface creation software is available. RS-232 and IR can be generated locally at the Tx and Rx sides for complete source and display control. This means that the S2L requires no control panel.

In addition to these capabilities, the S2L can be configured as a Telnet Client/Server to be integrated with existing supporting control systems. For its web control page, the device allots 8 MB of storage capability.

HDBaseT can connect entertainment devices in one setting through its 5Play feature set, which converges uncompressed full HD digital video (up to 10.2 Gbps), audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, Power over Cable and various control signals through a single 330-foot CAT 5e/6 cable. The technology is designed for whole-home and commercial multimedia distribution.

Aurora is selling the S2L for $1,049, the S2 for $799 and the S1 for $659.
