Fujitsu Publishes Network Strategy Partners Research Report

Fujitsu (News - Alert), a provider of information and communication technology (ICT)-based business solutions, claims that a new research report done by Network Strategy Partners (now part of ACG Research) revealed that Ethernet Tag Switching, Fujitsu’s implementation of Connection-Oriented Ethernet (COE), is capable of bringing down service providers’ annual expenses by 32 percent compared to MPLS-TP implementations.

AGS Research in its report acknowledged that the Fujitsu Ethernet Tag Switching implementation of COE actually has lower OPEX (News - Alert) than MPLS-TP implementation of COE when service providers migrate from a SONET-centric to a packet-centric transport network infrastructure. Fujitsu’s Ethernet Tag Switching not only does that but also simplifies operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) while at the same time incorporating widely-accepted Carrier Ethernet standards. Even as delivery and transport functions are fast becoming packet-based, Fujitsu enables providers to deploy the same protocols they have used for years.

The company explained that Ethernet tag (News - Alert) switching is similar to VLAN Tag Switching using IEEE 802.1ad frame format (Q-in-Q). This implementation has solved the Q-in-Q scaling limitations. This process also uniquely allows service providers to enjoy deterministic performance, efficient aggregation and 50 ms protection switching capabilities in a manner that is most easy to operationalize in their transport networks.

Officials with Fujitsu remarked that the Network Strategy Partners study reaffirms what they have been hearing from customers for a number of years. The Ethernet Tag Switching integrated into the company’s Packet-Optical Networking Platforms has been widely embraced by service providers who have embraced the technology. COE is viewed as the way to lower operating costs, preserve existing network and OAM investments and migrate towards delivering high performance Ethernet services driving the next generation of communications.

ITEXPO (News - Alert) offers an educational program to help corporate decision makers select the right IP-based voice, video, fax and unified communications solutions to improve their operations. It's also where service providers learn how to profitably roll out the services their subscribers are clamoring for – and where resellers can learn about new growth opportunities.
