Veryant, which specializes in COBOL and Java technologies, announced that Rech Informática is using isCOBOL Evolve software to modernize its COBOL-based ERP software application with updated user interfaces and new, thin client access options.

Rech Informática, a provider of business management software, wanted to modernize its ERP software to make it more appealing to its customers. However, the company preferred doing this without creating risks for itself or its customers.

Rech’s ERP solution, SIGER, was written initially in Micro Focus COBOL. It has been in use for more than 20 years by companies in many industries. The software offers a wide range of operational and management tools for multiple business functions.

The company ruled out rewriting the SIGER software as it was bulky and complicated. The ideal choice was to maintain the existing system while new features were added, increasing both the power and quality of the software.

Veryant’s isCOBOL Evolve enabled the company to continue programming in COBOL and at the same time modernize and deploy its application across multiple platforms in an open Java framework.

isCOBOL helped Rech Informática enhance SIGER with modern user interface capabilities and flexible data access options, while protecting its long-time, valuable COBOL business logic investments and avoiding a risky application rewrite. As the Veryant solution features single code base, it also provided cross-platform portability.

Company officials say isCOBOL Evolve enables Rech to offer customers a choice of cost-effective deployment platforms and flexible data access options without the risk of rewriting its valuable application code.

After the successful modernization program with isCOBOL, the new version of SIGER became completely platform independent and now includes portable graphical user-interfaces.

Rech selected Veryant’s isCOBOL Evolve through BRIVI Latin America, a distributor of Veryant’s technology in Latin America.

Back in October, Veryant announced that Anva, a Dutch insurance software supplier, selected the isCOBOL Application Platform Suite to lower COBOL licensing fees and enhance the efficiency of its development team.
