Business is getting more digital and data-centric. It also is getting more mobile.

That has led to an increasing trend within the business world on data center adoption.

“With the increasing complexity of enterprise computing infrastructure and the increasing demands from the enterprise businesses, there is a need for better management and maintenance services to be provided,” noted a recent report on the topic by Infiniti Research Limited. “To reduce the burden, the enterprises are opting for outsourced services from third-party service providers that are providing the services at lower prices compared to internal management of the services.”

This is especially true businesses with fewer resources to work from, whether a small business or a large one. Data centers and hosted solutions can be a boon for such businesses, which often need to rapidly scale computing infrastructure and facilities.

“With expanding business, SMBs are experiencing a need for better and faster computing facilities to be incorporated as a part of the enterprise infrastructure,” noted the report. “With increasing complexity of the computing infrastructure, there is a need for centralization of the resources in a single location which will ease the management and maintenance of the infrastructure.”

Complexity and the need for central, scalable resources have made hosted solutions a natural fit. They provide instant expertise with the services they cover, and allow a business to use the latest technology without having to constantly invest in equipment and maintenance.

Since the services are part of a larger resource pool for the hosting provider overall, small and medium-sized businesses can use this ready supply to scale up or down as needed, experiment with new offerings, and take fractional use from data center infrastructures that otherwise would be beyond reach.

This includes services such as file storage and databases such as CRM, but also increasingly communications services.

VoIP has been rocking the business world by delivering lower cost calling and a bevy of additional features, including business phone that follows workers wherever there is a data connection, and unified communications is letting every business videoconference and remotely connect with workers easily.

Many businesses have found that hosted communications solutions allow them to roll out advanced communications services and keep pace with changing needs much more easily than if deploying an on-premise solution and trying to keep pace.

Overall, hosted solutions and the data center are not going away.
