As enterprises continue to generate massive amounts of data, on premises storage systems are becoming impractical and expensive. This has driven providers of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) to look to the cloud to deliver the flexibility and scalability needed to store and easily access enterprise data. The announcement by Box (News - Alert), an enterprise content platform, it has partnered with Google to further improve the collaborative process in today's workforce by making content in the cloud available much easier further highlights the direction in which ECM is heading.

Box made the announcement at the recent BoxWorks 2016 event held in San Francisco. The company went on to say this partnership will see it collaborating on several initiatives that will transform the way work in the cloud will be delivered and accessed. Both companies will be integrating solutions from their respective organizations to bring together the Box platform with Google (News - Alert) Docs and Google Springboard to make the experience of working and collaborating on content in the cloud as seamless as possible.

Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box, said, "New, simple and powerful connections between Box, Google Docs, and Google Springboard are just the beginning of how Box and Google can power better ways to work in the cloud."

Levie added the goal for Box is to transform how people and organizations work to eventually unlock productivity across the entire operations of companies large and small.

As it applies to Google Docs, Box will essentially be a third-party content repository for the application Google provides, which include Docs, Sheets and Slides. Once the integration is completed, Box said its users will be able to create and edit these Google applications directly from Box.

This will be yet another platform in which enterprises will be able to collaborate no matter where their employees are using the Box ecosystem of productivity tools, including task management, workflow automation and real-time alerts. The robust security and control features Box provides will also be available along with the granular permissions and information governance it has in place to ensure the protection of the data it stores.

Google Springboard is a search engine for enterprise clients designed to use Google’s search algorithm to introduce new levels of efficiency by quickly finding documents in Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Drive. This algorithm will now be able to search through the Box content management platform giving its customers a powerful next generation intelligence tool to make information available at the fingertips of enterprise users with Springboard's universal search capabilities.
